What are the common barriers?

The 2023 Wellness and Reablement Report highlighted several common challenges:

  • Staffing and training

Workforce issues make up the biggest barrier to delivering a W&R approach. This includes issues with finding, keeping, and training staff.

  • Client resistance

Some clients’ care preferences prevent the delivery of W&R.

  • Time constraints

Planning and delivering W&R interventions can feel like it takes a lot of time you don't always have.

  • Misconceptions

W&R is often confused with rehabilitation. This creates uncertainty in staff about what’s expected. They may be unsure if it's within their scope of practice.

These barriers are common, but they’re not impossible to beat. Some free learning and practical guides make W&R easier to understand, explain, and do.
